The Book Launch in Sofia

The Bulgarian launch of the book “Strategic Management in the Arts” went very well: with good media coverage despite of the turbulent political situation in the same week (February 2013). I am glad that it raised interest among the professional circles from the arts and culture sector. My special thanks to go the OKOM Institute of Industrial Relations and Management for facilitating the launch, and to my great friend Stanislav Radoslavov and his PR Agency for their help and professionalism.

From the discussion at the book launch, it was clear that the topic of strategic management in the arts is very much needed in Bulgaria, both in the educational and training courses and programs, as well as in the practice of arts managers. Collaboration and partnership between different players and stakeholders is required in order to think and act strategically-something still to be understood in the sector.

Here are some of the websites and newspaper that presented the book and gave viewpoints and reflections:

Radio and TV interviews

Radio-journalists also paid attention to the event and the importance of the discussion. The questions asked were around the application of the strategic models in Bulgaria, the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in the strategies of arts organizations, the most common mistakes that managers in the arts do and how to be avoided, the connection between strategies and turbulent external environment in which arts and culture professionals live, and much more. You can hear the two interviews on the National Radio « Hristo Botev » here :

The interview on the Bulgarian television, channel 2, “Recipes for culture” program was enjoyable, with such a great playwriter and profesional like Yuri Dachev who conducts all his TV editions in a very engaging and interesting way. The interview can be seen here:

Open presentation at the University of National and World Economy, Sofia

I graduated at the Economic University many years ago. I accomplished my PhD degree there; I was Associate Professor and I became later Dean of Department of Social and Cultural Management. I am very grateful to my colleagues and friend there for the ongoing support they had given me throughout the years. I was extremely pleased to be back and to have the opportunity to present my viewpoint on the strategic approaches and entrepreneurial projects in the cultural industries. We discussed issues such as: What is the role of the strategies in cultural industries? Why innovation and entrepreneurship are important vectors in the strategic management in the arts? How innovations can lead to sustainable development in the cultural industries? What are the financial mechanisms for the arts in the contemporary world and how the functions and roles of the arts managers and entrepreneurs change?

My special thanks to to the Department of Media and Public Communications and the Observatory for Cultural Economics for making this possible. Reflection on the public presentation is visible at the website of the University of National and World Economy:
